Few Faqs and tricks for Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

Browsing the Internet and different forums bout Xperia X10, i have learned that there are a lot of Rumors Floating around for the X10. People are still confused bout many things in the X10. I took the most asked questions from different forums over the internet and tried to answer them myself.
I tried to include a few from my side as well, and if you think you’ve got more questions feel free to ask them in the comments section.
There are a Few tricks for your Xperia X10, so just read on!

Does the Proximity Sensor work for Xperia X10?
Well, it did create a lot of fuss bout Xperia X10 having a Proximity Sensor or not? Well keeping it simple, Proximity Sensor is a kind of sensor on your Phones which senses the proximity of other objects around the phone. It is basically used while making calls from your phone to turn off the display so that ones cheeks doesn’t hit the on screen End call button.
Well, the Xperia X10 does have a Proximity sensor at the top of the phone just right to the In-call speaker. But it does use the proximity sensor implication in a little different way. It does not turn off the screen, immediately but does turn off the Touch of the display. and after 3-4secs it turns off the display as well. ( A relatively new approach. )
So, that caused a lot of confusion and i’ve checked it my Xperia X10, it works pretty fine. With a distance range of around 2cm.

- Does Xperia X10 has a FM which can be enabled in the Next Firmware Update like other HTC phones? ( UPDATED )
NO Xperia X10 doesn’t have the required hardware for the FM. So, it can’t be enabled through any firmware Upgrade it Receives. Although, in some parts of the world, Xperia X10 is shipped with a Bluetooth Ear-piece which has a FM Receiver as well.Whilst Xperia X10 mini and Xperia X10 PRO Comes with the Required a FM Tuner.

- I can’t View Videos in Full-screen in the Mediascape that i transferred from my Computer. ( UPDATED )
Just Double tap the Video in the Landscape mode to View it in Full Screen Mode. So, Don’t worry about converting your Videos to the resolution to match the Resolution of Xperia X10, i.e. 854×480. But remember to maintain the Aspect Ratio of the Videos! The Video in the Aspect Ratio of 4:3 might not stretch to full screen when you double click on them. Try to keep your Videos to the aspect Ratio of 16:9.

- How do I forward my SMS Messages on the Xperia X10? ( UPDATED )
If you are Using the Default SMS application the Xperia X10, just open the thread which contains the Message(SMS) you want to forward, and Long Touch ( or Long press ) the SMS and it would pop a new menu which would contain the Options like Forwarding, Copy Message Test, Delete Message ( Delete that Single SMS ),etc.
I guess the steps are similar with other Popular SMS Messaging Apps on your Xperia X10, like the HandcentSMS.

I cannot assign a SMS alert tone on my Xperia X10? How can I?
Well, there is no such in-built feature in Androids to change the SMS alert tone. It’s only decided by the Phone manufacturer to what to include in the default profile.
Hey, don’t worry, it’s Android Open Source remember! You can ofcourse change that with a large no of applications available in market from dedicated to this action only to add ons for other apps.
I would suggest you to go for Free App – HandCent SMS. It lets you choose any mp3 tone from your memory card as SMS alert tone.

I can’t Record Sound on my Xperia X10? Can it record?
Yes! There is no pre-installed apps on the Xperia X10 to record sound or use it as a Dictaphone. But there are lot of apps in the market which does this job specifically.

Does the X10 have a Magnetic Compass?
Yes! Again theres no built in feature to demonstrate this feature particularly. But then Google Maps pre-installed on Xperia X10 does use compass indirectly.
You can Of course download the dedicated Compass apps from market and most of them are free.
There are a few nice applications of this feature on android platform. One is Metal Detector. You’ll love it anyways.

What formats of Video are supported on Xperia X10? Can it Play Divx?
Well, out of the Box, X10 can play Mp4 and mpeg Files. But if you want to play divx on the X10, you need not worry as the phone does it brilliantly with an app called yxFlash. ( Trail version free on market. )

What is the Latest Firmware on Xperia X10?
Well the latest firmware build on Xperia X10 is R1FA016. ( as on dated April 22nd 2010. )

What is the Screen color ( No of Pixels ) and color and Refresh Rate of Xperia X10?
Well, i checked it myself from an application in market called ‘Input Benchmark’ and it says the screen refresh rate to be around 26 to 28Hz.
And bout the screen color, it’s 65k and the hardware is capable of 16m colors. ( It’s official! )

My Call Log Doesn’t show up in the Timescape? Timescape only shows Missed Calls? How to View Full Call Log on Xperia X10?
Timescape is designed to keep you update on things happening around you, and it does not track things you do. It does track things happening around you. So, logically it shows only the missed calls. ( Well, i would have loved to have a option to show Full Call Log in Timescape or to just view the Missed Calls. )
But you can definitely view the Full Call Log and it’s viewable under the Four tabs on the bottom of the contacts screen. You can also go there by tapping the Dialer Icon on the Desktop and then the 2nd Icon from left at the bottom of the screen.

The Lock Screen Swipe Animation Shifted from Right to Left? How do i change it?
In the Lock Screen itself. Just hold and drag the top of the Swipe animation from left to right and right to left and leave it. It suits your needs. If you are a left hander, you’ll probably want it the other way.

I can’t multi-task when i’m on the call! Too Bad!
No it isn’t that bad. Just press and hold the middle button( Home button ) while you are on the call and it will take you to home.

When i click on the Timescape Tile , it redirects me to touch.facebook.com and gives an error?
Well, this isn’t a problem from the Sony Ericsson or Android, it’s the Facebook Touch site with some conflicts of DNS server. It’s even reported by many other Mobile phone users including the Windows mobile and iPhone users. This is temporarily and will get sorted. ( Hope so! )
Let me know if some of you managed to overcome this problem by manipulating some DNS server info.

My Timescape widget stopped working? Why?
Well, you might be using some task killer app which would be killing the widget and associated plugins.
To solve this, just restart your Xperia X10 and exclude all the plugins and apps by Sony Ericsson. And now you can use the Task killer as you used it earlier and this won’t Timescape widget anymore.

Can Xperia X10 do multi-touch? I saw it in a Video on Youtube where the guy was pinch zooming on the Google maps?
Well to be straight forward, NO Xperia X10 can’t do Multi-touch and it’s official, everything else is a Rumor. ( Will cover this in detail, stay tuned. )

Is the screen Responsive enough? I’ve heard it’s misses few letters in the keyboard?
The Screen is quite responsive. The cases where people experienced missing letters in the standard keyboard of Sony Ericsson in the Xperia X10 is due to some software issues of the Keyboard. ( Perhaps! )
The screen responds quickly and doesn’t miss a single letter on any keyboard( theres a lot to choose from, in the Android Market ) downloaded from the market.
Even Sony Ericsson provides you with the Stock Android Keyboard in the Xperia X10 out of the Box. And with the Latest Firmware those issues with the Keyboard has been removed.

PlayNow is doesn’t show up in my Xperia X10?
That might be due to the country support. Your country might not be still having the Playnow support. You can still visit PlayNowarena from your phone and browse free stuffs.

My battery Drains out quite quickly, how do i get more out of it?
Well, there are few battery saving tips, that i would like you to follow. Just don’t lets apps running in the background. Use some Task killer app to kill the apps in the background.
Use GSM only in settings if you are not using 3G or out of 3G coverage area.
Turn Off Automatic Brightness and use brightness to somewhere around midway in most conditions.
These would definitely increase your battery backup. will cover these in detail, stay tuned.

How long the battery lasts on the Xperia X10?
It depends on your use. In general it would last a day with moderate use of almost all the features of the phone. The battery is quite good on this phone, being 1500mah. And Considering the fact that it charges to 100% form zero in just 2-3hrs makes it more handy. For saving battery tips, refer to previous answer.
