Flashing tutorial to Upgrade Xperia X10 to Latest R2BA020 firmware by Debranding

[ UPDATE ] : This upgrade tutorial doesn’t work any more as Sony Ericsson has updated their SEUS and won’t let you use the Replace File trick anymore! Will try to find another workaround and will let you know! Stay Tuned!

[ UPDATE 2 ] : This trick still might work for you. Look at a suggestion given by one of our readers and i guess you should try this trick for the tutorial to work for you. Here is a direct quote from what he said,

Martin : Do as you do in the tutorial (download files, rename them). When SEUS downloads the firmware files it downloads the 15+MB file first, so when you see the file has somewhere around that size replace it. When downloading of the 120+MB file is coming to an end move the unbranded firmware file into the blob_fs directory, but don’t hit “replace” in Windows explorer jut jet. Time it right when the download is complete.

And for any further queries please feel free to ask in the comments section!

And Lastly, please take the responsibility of whatever you do to your Phone. You would be responsible for whatsoever you do to your phone.

- Open the C:\ -> Program Files -> Sony Ericsson -> Update Service -> db -> 13740270 -> blob_fs and view files in Detail View and sort them using File Size.

- You’ll Find a ~110MB File and a ~15MB file. ( size may vary according to different operators and regions. )

[ Update ]
- If you are experiencing problems with SEUS not updating your Xperia X10 at the Second time when you replaced the R2BA020 Firmware Files giving you the error as ” Update Failed and Recharge you Battery to atleast 50% and contact Sony Ericsson Support if problem Persists or Starts to download the Firmware Files Again. In these cases, Rename the two files you downloaded ( R2FB020 Firmware Files, 15.8Mb File and 127Mb File ) with the two Files you replaced in the earlier step. ( Please make sure to Rename the smaller 15.8Mb File with the name of the smaller ~15MB File that SEUS Downloaded ( of R1FA016 Firmware File ) and do the same with the bigger File. PLEASE DO NOT Interchange the File names, else it might brick your phone! )

Hello, I am trying to update the firmware but when i did that and replaced the files with the downloaded ones but still cant update.

when i replace the files it again downloads the files and update from them,
I followed martins suggestion and replaced the 16 MB file first and then at the end of the download of the 120 MB file, i replaced the file and then it says “Update failed” and asks to retry when the battery is full.

Pls can you tell me the detailed instructions of how to update R2BA020 onto my x10

    Hi Manish,

may be this query is basic, but iam new for Android.

I got a new Sony Ericsson X10 with Android 1.6 in Singapore yesterday.

Is it possible to upgrade on our own the Android 1.6 to the new one ? If so how?
Else what is the process of the same ? Hope the new Android OS is with advanced features / bug fixes…. Kindly guide me :) Thanks & regards,
    Sami

  • Hi Manish,
A total ANDROID Newbie here. :) I have a xperia x10 mini which has been brought from UAE and is being used here in India. There is no market app in the phone due to some regional regulations. Is there anyway to flash the firmware to get the market app in it? Any tutorials u can guide me to to help me get the market app? Any other suggestions? :)
    thanx in advance.
    Vijay

    • You can probably try to De-brand it and flash it with a Custom Indian Firmware to get the Android Market on it! Or you can simply ask any Sony Ericsson Service Center here in India to do that for you. ( you might need to convince them that it can be done! )

Else you can follow the tutorial for Xperia X10, in the blog itself ( Use Search! ). But you need to get Generic X10 Mini Firmware files!

  • Hullo Manish,

Dude I think you are a genius, at least compared to me. I may sound a bit dense, but is this tutorial the same as “flashing” the phone?
What I am trying to do is get android market app ( which is not there on the phone because I bought an unlocked set ) and I heard some on forums saying that flashing will make me have it.

I have also just updated to v 2.1. Will doing the above downgrade/ affect the update ?

Thank you so much, you are a great help!

    • IF you have Android 2.1 on your phone, you can just root it and install the Android Market app on it, if there’s not one in your phone! Let me know if you want me to upload the Latest Android Market app for you! :)
