Official Changelog of R2BA023 & R2BA026 on Xperia X10-FOTA Updates & Wi-Fi Bug
I’ve previously described the Changelog of Firmware R2BA020 for Xperia X10 on basis of my First Impressions of the Firmware update by Sony Ericsson!
I’ve got hold of Official Changelog of the Latest Firmware for Xperia X10-R2BA023 and R2BA026. Although this event took place to be a month ago, I consider it important and necessary to tell you more about it.
The Latest Firmware R2BA023 and R2BA026 were available through FOTA ( Firmware Over The Air ) updates! Additionally you can update your Xperia X10 using SEUS/PC Companion! But if you choose to Update through SEUS or PC Companion you’ll loose all your data and setting on your phone. Make you sure BackUp all your Data on Xperia X10 using Best apps to BackUp Data and Setting!
And if you want a step by step tutorial on How to Update Firmware or Repair/Reinstall Firmware on Xperia X10, follow this Easy guide!
But if you choose to Update using FOTA you should not care about Backing up your data as this update won’t wipe data on your Xperia X10. FOTA Updates use 3G/Wi-Fi so if you are on a limited Data Plan be sure to use Wi-fi to update software though FOTA. It would be faster as well. ![]()
To update software using FOTA go to Settings -> About Phone -> Update!
R2BA023 Firmware( from R1FA014/R1FA016 ) : ~41MB FOTA
R2BA026 Firmware( from R2BA020/R2BA023 ) : ~1.5MB FOTA
Firmware Updates takes around ~5 to 10mins after the Download of the Software! After flashing all the settings and data are stored, so you don’t need to backup your data and settings if you are using FOTA updates!
On a whole there were ~300 changes made on the R2BA023 firmware from R1FA014/R1FA016. And a few more changes in the R2BA026 firmware from R2BA023! Most of them wouldn’t make sense to general public and is strictly related to Core Interface of the OS. ( Couldn’t be disclosed to everyone due to competitive reasons as well! ). so the purpose is to list some Major Changes in the R2BA023 Firmware!
Official Chnagelog of R2BA023 Firmware for Xperia X10
- The application for archiving and restoring data (contacts, messages, bookmarks, settings, etc.)
- Recognition of conversational dynamics.
- Improved battery life, including and in special modes such as GPS, Sync.
- Improved interface and improved usability of the camera and media player.
- Many changes in the user interface (eg PIN code is typed in a new way)
- The sensitivity of the sensor display.
- Improved accelerometer.
- Available new color design for Timescape.
- Optimized the speed in general of Timescape (photos are loaded faster and more efficiently with less traffic, improved mapping data in the cards, the application runs faster and more stable in general)
- Improved video recording quality (not only video but also sound at this).
Official Changelog of R2BA026 Firmware on Xperia X10
In addition of changes on R2BA023 firmware from R1FA014/R1FA016, there were only a few changes made to the smaller update on Firmware R2BA026 on the basis of feedback from users all over the world after updating to R2BA023.
- Fixed the issue where users experienced Force Close in “PlayNow” and “TrackID” after the R2BA023 update!
- Fixed the issue of weak Picture Resolution in Mediascape!
- Photo quality is reduced in Timesacape ( Only Marginally! )to reduce the traffic over 3G/edge. In the next firmware – good quality with adequate bandwidth, will be our concern!
- Battery Consumption is tweaked further!
- Other minor improvements in general usability and stability of the OS.
After updating to R2BA026 many users experienced the Famous Wi-Fi Bug which is completely irrelevant of the Fimrware! I mean there is no bug in the Firmware and I can conform it from my tests on the Indian R2BA026 Firmware.
How to Remove the Wi-fi bug on your Xperia X10 with R2BA026 firmware!
This is not a Firmware Bug! So try to do a Clean Install of the Firmware Update using SEUS or PC Companion! To get step by step guide to install/repair firmware on your Xperia X10, you can follow this thread,
Repair/Re-install Firmware on your Xperia X10 using PC Companion/SEU
And if still the wi-fi bug remains on your Xperia X10, you can ask me in the comments!
And if you want to know more about the changes you can have a look at this post! Changelog of Xperia X10 on Firmware R2BA020 on basis of my First Impressions! ![]()
And If you have found some change and that has not been listed above and think it’s important, please write about it in the comments. You can also share the Bugs found on this Firmware R2BA026!

You can follow the step by step guide in this post to update your Firmware on your Xperia X10 with SEUS/ PC Companion!
http://gadgets.apnafundaz.com/2010/04/new-firmware-update-for-xperia-x10-r1fa016-step-by-step-guide-no-multitouch/
( Just use the guide! It won’t install the R1FA016 firmware, but the latest Firmware in your region which might be R2Ba023 or R2BA026 ) And if you don’t see the Update on the SEUS or PC Companion, then Repair the Firmware!
Manish, I did upload the firmware in the using SEUS and I see the wifi issue which wasn’t there before. So what do you suggest?
Cheers,
rsivanandan
Try doing a Factory Reset and then repair using SEUS/PC Companion! And if the problem persist, let me know!
Btw, you upgraded your phones firmware to R2Ba026 from which firmware? Did you root or de-brand your Xperia X10 ever?
Hi Manish,
I am a new X10 user, I got it about a month ago. I do have a couple questions/comments.
What exactly is this Wi-Fi Bug?
I updated to R2BA020 when I got the phone and noticed your recent blog posting just today with regards to R2BA026. I would like to update the phone but, I’m not sure I want to go through all the trouble.
I guess I may as well wait till 2.1
Wi-fi bug is when you are connected to a wi-fi and choose it to be remembered by your phone and when you go out of the range of the wi-fi and return back to the range of the wi-fi again, the phone does not connect automatically although it should have!
I would suggest you to go for the update! ( especially if FOTA updates are available! ) I’ve used both the firmwares on the phone and can say that the general speed is better and the phone seems to be more stable!
Thanks for your wrap-up. Actually, this is a minor updrade compared to the previous one. Hope to receive major update ot even 2.1 in the near future.
Hey Manish, I’m facing some problem with my xperia x10 when i’m calling someone and i try to drag the dial pad to record a number or something it doesn’t drag the bar and when i want to turn on the speaker i click on the speaker icon and it doesn’t respond even when i try to hang up the call by pressing end call i get no response this happened lately actually and it doesn’t happen everytime i call someone but frequently i updated to the latest firmware still el same problem exists please if you know what should i do let me know. PS the touch screen works fine except when being in a call ! Thanks
It might be due to dust on the Proximity Sensor! Clean it and it should work fine!
Check out how Proximity Sensor works on the Xperia X10, in this Faqs Section for Xperia X10!
http://gadgets.apnafundaz.com/2010/04/few-faqs-and-tricks-for-sony-ericsson-xperia-x10/
Yeah i guess that was the problem as i had this screen protector covered with dust from the inside! anyways thank you very much btw when i updated to latest frimware R2BA026 i had no problems with the wifi also this bug ppl are talking about doesn’t exist at least for me lol thanks again Manishe
Just the Lack of Respect for Customers! And for update it depends on many things and don’t worry you would get the Big update anyways!
Else, watch out for this space and you would definitely find a way or another to get it on your Xperia X10.
For now, you can try this tutorial to get the Latest Firmware Update on your Xperia X10.
http://gadgets.apnafundaz.com/2010/06/flashing-tutorial-to-upgrade-xperia-x10-to-latest-r2ba020-firmware-by-debranding/
try updating using FOTA, SEUS, PC COMPANION… all fail… i’m now on r2ba020…. plz help… i,m from malaysia
Did you De-brand your Xperia X10 ever?
Try to Repair using SEUS Or PC Companion, it should upgrade to the Latest firmware on your Xperia X10.
i haven’t de-brand my x10 ever…. it just when i use seus or pc companion and after the repair it still doesn’t update my firmware…. already try it abaout dozen time…
Then the latest upgrade for Xperia X10 in your region might be still R2BA020. IT depends on the local market to release the update! ( which is subject to many terms and conditions. )
If you want, you can upgrade to R2BA026 using de-branding method, but i won’t recommend you the same! ( Android 2.1 update for Xperia X10 is around the corner! )
Hi Manish ,
I was planing to buy this X10 for quite some time . But some people are saying the in call volume is very less I would like to know about that . I’m also confused between X10 and iphone 3gs Can you please help which one will be better . Hope to hear from you soon . Take care and cheers !!!
Yes the in-call volume is low but not low enough! Expected to get a boost in the In-call volume in a firmware update that is due by September Last week.
and you might find the iPhone’s software fluidity a bit better as presently, X10 has Android 1.6!
And X10 is definitely better than iPhone 3Gs in any aspect! Let it be Hardware wise or Software Wise! X10 just lacks in Multi-Touch!
Hi Manish ,
Thanks a lot for the reply .Oh thats great news the firmware update will fix it ? Are you sure about that , ifs yes then I will go for the X10 . Has Sony confirmed anything about the OS update from 1.6 to 2.1 ? And also how is the ring volume of this . I was not happy with the ring volume in Satio….Sorry for asking too many question.
YEs, Sony Ericsson has officially conformed that Xperia X10 will receive Android 2.1 update starting from Late Q3 this year! And In-call volume fix is on the top priority of Sony Ericsson for the aforementioned update. So, you can go for it!
Hey Manish.
I updated to 026 using SEUS . All my data is still present on my phone.
It was the same when i updated to 023.
Perhaps they found a way for us to keep all of our data even when we use SEUS???
Just wanted to let you know.
Goffer
No, thats not correct! There might be a problem while upgrading your Firmware! Although, yours is upgraded to R2BA026 from R2BA023, it didn’t install the files and wiped your data! This happens sometimes and m not aware of why it happens! Will let you know once i find it out!
Hey again Manish!
When I updated to 023 I also used SEUS. No data was lost or deleted. So I experienced this twice now.
I have got all of the new things mentioned in your changelog.
On some danish forums they talk about this new feature in SEUS aswell….. they also talk about beeing able to update with and without whipping all your data. As a choice you have. I havent seen this option myself yet.
