Reverse Wi-Fi Tethering for Xperia X10 to share Internet of Win7 laptop-Tips & Tricks

Reverse Wi-Fi Tethering for Xperia X10 to share Internet of Win7 laptop-Tips & Tricks

Wi-Fi Tethering is now officially available in Android 2.2, Froyo Devices. But you can still have Access to this feature if you have a rooted phone. :) I’ve mentioned about Wi-Fi Tethering app that does the job for you if you have a rooted Xperia X10. :)

But there are situations when you would not like to pay for those Huge Data Tariff of your Network Operator and you would just want to connect your Xperia X10 to your Home Network.
But that would require you an Additional Hardware that is Wi-Fi router. Imagine you have Something like Wi-fi tethering but from the computer to your phone, it would have been great? Isn’t it?
So, we have a solution to this, A Reverse Wi-Fi Tethering for your Xperia X10 ( or any Other phone with a Wi-fi ) that shares a Internet connection of a Windows 7 Laptop with a Wi-Fi.

This is pretty simple and you just need to install this App on your Laptop and it would simply turn your Laptop into a Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot and it’s not like any Ad-Hoc Connection as it shows up like a real Access Point. :)

The App is Connectify. Connectify is a free Windows 7 application that turns your laptop into a real Wi-Fi hotspot to share the Internet with friends, co-workers, and mobile devices. Connectify allows you to take any Internet connection and share it wirelessly with no additional hardware, wires, plugs, or chargers.

You can then easily connect any number of WiFi enabled devices to your personal network including laptops, phones, gaming systems, and more. WiFi enabled devices can see and join your Connectify hotspot just like any other WiFi access point and are kept safe and secure by rock solid WPA2 Encryption.

This is not a simple Ad-hoc connection, its a full blown Access Point allowing you to host or repeat a network and receive an Internet connection at the same time, using one Wi-Fi card.

- Software Based Wi-Fi Router
- Connect with Mobile Devices
- Absolutely Free and Unrestricted
- Secure and Reliable

    Hi Manish,
i managed to connect to the wireless network but could not open any webpage. it gave me an error saying internet is not connected

  • Hello Manish..
I’ve tried connecting my X10 with connectify, but it fails to identify my IP address.
Do I actually have to root my device to connect with Connectify?

    • No you don’t need to root it! And you don’t need to provide an IP Address to achieve this. This works as simple as a open Wi-Fi Access point. ( If you don’t provide it with WPA protection! ). What are you actually trying to do with IP and where in Phone or Computer?

      • Thanks Manish..
What i meant is that it fails to identify my X10 IP Address and the name of my device in the “Connected Clients” tab. In my X10′s wi-fi settings, it keeps on showing “Obtaining address..”

      • I’ve found what’s wrong..
After I uninstalled the v2.0 and installed with the old v1.2 everything works fine..

Hi, this is a very nice guide and good solution to reverse wifi tethering. But my question is this: Say I don’t have a laptop, wifi router, or anything to do with wireless, but I do have access to a high speed wired connection. Is there an easy way to use the USB to reverse tether? I’ve googled, and it seems the methods there are are very hacky and doesn’t even work properly. I don’t have a data plan for my phone and it can become quite costly, so I would like to use the university internet on my phone through the USB.

I downloaded Connectify to my Windows7 and it has completely crashed. It keeps taking me to the “start in what mode” window. It just constantly recycles.
I get this in Safe Mode:
Files that help describe the problem:
    C:\Windows\Minidump30111-19437-02.dmp
    C:\Windows\Bob\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-33337-0.sysdata.xml
    What do I do now?
